These two boys look like a cross between a Chihuahua and a Corgi!

Come meet them at our next East Bay mobile event. Saturday July 24th, 12-4, at the Rockridge Pet Food Express store. 51st Street @ Broadway in Oakland. Jojo, a blond beauty, was found with Coco (who we think is his brother) in late May, abandoned in a parking lot in Richmond. No owner was found, so they are being fostered until a new home can be found for them together. Jojo, is a very spirited, playful and affectionate boy. Jojo brims with charm - he rolls on his back, waving his little front legs in the air for a belly rub; he crawls dragging his rear legs behind him; and he also talks with little growls. Second to belly rubs, and treats (he is content chewing his rawhide), he loves to take walks and loves to run on an extended leash. He is protective of his human companion and of Coco.

"Coco is a beautiful blend of light and dark brown with an adorable baby face. He is every bit as expressive as Jojo. He will toss his head around in an irresistible invitation to play. Among Coco’s many charms is his ability to jump up & down on his hind legs; and like Jojo, a good belly rub is the way to his heart, and he, too will signal “more!” with front legs wiggling and waving.

Jojo and Coco both love, and I mean love, prancing in and out of little doggie dens, like cat carriers, which make for not only a fun game, but a convenient way to keep them calm and close. Jojo and Coco both are quite socialized to living with cats, a large dog and an 11 year old child. They love all of them! They enjoy following their older, bigger “brother” dog on walks."

Foster dog Fred – Feedback This is a calm, loving small companion dog. He is house-trained, and has slept through the night (in his doggie bed in our room) from day 1. He walks beautifully on leash, no pulling or tugging. He enjoys a cuddle but will happily curl up in the room wherever you are - he just loves human companionship, not a dog to be left alone all day. Fred is easy to take care of, and has caused no damage to anything about the house. A small dog with a certain reserve at first, Fred quickly grows on you, and we have become very fond of him. Definitely not a “little yappy dog” he deserves a loving, calm home. Sweet, mild mannered, mellow, basic blond Chi boy --- easy and sweet natured - a very lucky Chihuahua! The last and only one left needing to get out of a shelter or be euthanized the next morning.... 7/3 - in order to have room for all those who flood the shelters over a Fourth of July weekend!

There are SO MANY Chihuahuas these days - and it is getting harder to find them homes - but we like to help even those who are "basic" not the cute and fluffies" sometimes as well! "Fred's not dead" is a favorite line around here at Milo....

Breed: Chihuahua - Miniature Pincher Mix
Gender: Male
Age: 7 yrs. 2 mo.  Birthday: 5/2003 (est)
Weight: Small (less than 30 pounds)
Milo ID: 13979
Current Location: Foster Care
Fostered in Rockridge/Oakland. Email an application to arrange for a meeting. Or see him at our next East Bay mobile event, at our Berkeley mobile on Sunday the 1st! 1823 Fourth Street.

Poor little Kahlua (8 pounds). He was owner-surrendered to the Lake County shelter because they were "unable to care for him". He spent a couple of scary weeks there, and then just as we got him, he came down with kennel cough. He went off to a warm foster home for LOTS of TLC. NOW he has fallen head over heals in love with his foster mom Carol... His notes say he is good with dogs and cats, but best in a home without young children.

Foster bio: "Kahlua is a loyal and loving little guy. He has a sweet face, is light as a feather, with long thin legs that support his light load. He doesn't have the playfulness of a puppy, but on the other hand, he's in his prime and is housebroken, easy going, low maintenance, calm and very smart (older dogs definitely learn new tricks). He likes to lay in the sun or on the couch or, even better, cuddle next to his people. He loves to give gentle kisses from time to time, and is a true companion dog.

Kahlua loves going out with his people for any adventure - a walk or a ride in the car. He walks very nicely on leash (with the requisite sniffing/marking stops), and happily greets all dogs that pass by him on his walks. He is a great car companion, sitting in the passenger sit and enjoying the ride. As sweet and easygoing as he is, he is no pushover. If he thinks a "stranger" is entering the house or approaching the car, he turns into a little gremlin, that takes everyone by surprise. It is easily avoided by letting him know the "stranger" is given access privileges by his person, and easily stopped when his person steps in. He also needs to feel comfortable with a new person before being petted. He needs to approach and sniff first (if he does) before any petting starts. This is also easily managed by alerting new people on the slow approach -- especially because he is so cute, that people want to start petting him as soon as they see him.

All in all, Kahlua is a good boy, and a ready and constant companion. Once he gets attached to you, you will be the light of his life, and he will be a wonderful addition to your life."

Weight: Small (less than 30 pounds)

Sweet, little cutie . . .

Blake was a bit "pathetic" in appearance at time of arrival, and has gone off to a fine Milo foster home in Napa to get "the cure!"

His foster mom in Napa reports:

Blake is a darling little fellow - seems like a dachshund/chihuahua mix- long body, reddish brown coat and brown eyes that melt your heart. He is extremely lovable and needs a lot of affection -is starting to run and play because he sees Lola doing it but doesn't seem to have done much of that in the past. Was extremely thin and quiet but now has become energetic and runs outside with Lola and eats well -no longer can feel his little bones. Sleeps the night and has a rare indoor accident. Frequent trips to the outdoors keep this at a minimum. A great dog for anybody -a couch potato or an active person - he is a love and it would be great if he and Lola could get adopted together.

All is well with the two rascals, Blake and Lola that we are fostering. They get along beautifully and are very happy loving dogs - need tons of affection and hugs.

We have to go to my niece's wedding in N.H. and will need to bring them back to Milo -we are thinking of coming down this Wednesday afternoon, July 21... It would be so great if they could be adopted together - but on their own they will make someone a great pet.

Lola eats all the food for both of them if left to it, so they have to be fed separately. Other than that they are no problem at all. Blake, who was not housebroken when he first came, has learned from Lola. He does everything she does, and no longer has accidents.

The adventurous one - always happy to saunter around following you and/or looking for some more food perhaps! Sweet, cherubic, friendly fellow. One of five Chihuahuas taken in by Milo after a breeder was shut down - when 36 dogs were found in a small trailer. They are registered purebred Chihuahuas - of varied colors . . . slightly timid but not bad at all!

Solo is a total sweetheart.
