Featured Critter: NAKITA

Breed: Siberian Husky   -  Gender: Female  -  Age: 5 yrs. 7 mo. (est)  -  Milo ID: 18547

AMY *Foster Notes" 10/20/17 "Nakita was actually really good on leash. Learned to go to bathroom outside."

What a beautiful, active and happy girl! Nakita is all smiles and absolutely loves people. No other dogs. She is a loving girl looking for a breed-savvy adopter. She gets along nicely with all people and some friendly male dogs, but no females or dog parks for this pretty girl as she would likely get herself into some sticky situations with the other strong ladies there. She does NOT do well when meeting dogs through a barrier or on leash, but with proper direction this could possibly improve. Her ideal adopter would either have experience with leash reactive dogs or would be prepared to work with trainers to help her react more appropriately when seeing other dogs on leash. She lives with a male dog currently and gets along with him very well. She does, however, believe all the food in the world is hers and while she doesn't act aggressively with people or dogs regarding food, she has no problem taking food that doesn't belong to her and will happily knock them over to make this a reality. For this reason she does need to be separated from other dogs during feeding time and should never be "free fed"

Nakita's previous owners mentioned she could be quite the escape artist as she is very good at jumping fences, because of this she is in need of a home that has very good fencing and owners with the ability to get her the mental stimulation, and physical activity a smart energetic girl like her needs. However, she has not tried or been able to escape from our six foot fences here at the Sanctuary.

It is very easy to fall in love with her beautiful face and completely charming personality, but before applying please do stop to think if you would be able to give her the exercise and training that she would need in order to reach her full potential. She needs someone who is comfortable with taking the lead. Someone who will love her and always treat her compassionately, but will set very clear and consistent rules, which they are willing to stick to when she decides to test and challenge them. We are looking for a home for her with someone who understands that although they are fluffy and adorable, Husky's are a unique kind of dog and can be a challenge if not trained properly. If you feel that you can offer this girl the loving home that she so deserves, please send your application to sanctuary@milofoundation.org

*Foster Notes* 10/19/17 "Notes... Sally doesn't dig, chew, or scratch inappropriately-- your shoes are safe with her, she's completely house trained, she's very quick to learn. It only took a couple of days to get her doing a solid sit/stay before going in or out a door. She does love walks but the rest of the time she is SUPER lazy, Sally is 100% certain that she belongs on the sofa, and given the opportunity will spend most of the day sleeping on the sofa. Reactions to dogs have been mixed. She met my trainer's dogs in a controlled environment and did very well. She also did well with a chihuahua at a pet store. But she did overreact to a couple of dogs while out on walks. Not aggressive but more like she was so anxious to check out the situation that she got overworked. My trainer (Martina Contreras) believes she just wasn't socialized with other dogs and so doesn't know how to interpret their behavior.

She's been fine with people she's met, but she has barked at people in the neighbor's yard. She took to my husband immediately. She was a little jumpy (easy to startle) the first couple of hours here, but after that has become very mellow. She seems fine left alone. The longest she's been alone this week is about 45 minutes. Mostly if I go out for a short errand she's just sleeping on the couch when I get back. She's been eating grass frequently. No vomiting though. She had a shower and did fine. Didn't love it but didn't fight it either. She rides very well in the car.

All in all she's just been really great, very low maintenance, just needs some work on dog reactivity."

Sally is a very happy and social girl with those that she knows and trusts, but can be fearful of being approached by strange men on the street and in the home. She has made close male friends during her stay at the sanctuary, but could possibly be a little reactive in a more hectic environment or with a man whom she did not take to. She truly is a sweet and loving dog, but because she does have some fear issues, we are looking for a rural, predictable and adult only home for her. Sally gets along well with friendly male dogs but does not get along well with females

No kitties for Sally please. Sally is a highly bonding girl, who connects with woman faster then men and can become possessive over them. Once you know this beautiful girl it is hard to believe that she is anything but a wiggly, lovely dog and in the right home she will shine! Please do note that she IS a hound and has the voice to prove it. She is waiting for her forever family or person to find her. Please send applications to sanctuary@milofoundation.org and cc: info@milofoundation.org
