Name: RAMA
RAMA

Breed: Bull Terrier - Springer Spaniel Mix
Gender: Female
Age: 13 yrs. 4 mo.  Birthday: 10/1996 (est)
Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
Milo ID: 9057
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
Rama is a truly exceptional senior dog. She is simply irresistible- and totally sweet, cuddly, funny, smiley, easy to care for. She even dances! I would ask to keep her in a second, but I already am responsible for 2 dogs, (who both love her, by the way, and they are pretty picky). She loves to go for a walk to do her business, though she will use the back yard if she has to. She does not pull on the leash, unless she passes a smell she cannot resist, but even then she just needs a little tug.

She is very interested in squirrels, less so in cats. Don't know how she is with cats in the same house. Her eyesight is remarkable for an old girl. She can spot squirrels in trees when my young springer mix doesn't have a clue.

She treasures a cozy bed and good nylabone to chew on. She will get on the couch if she's allowed to. She does like to dig, and hopefully will have a spot where this is okay.

Rama is fine in the dog park, but loves people best, and doesn't need major exercise other than a couple of brisk walks each day.

Rama now has a clean bill of health, thanks to the wonderful Animal Care Clinic in El Sobrante, where she had two masses removed, and fortunately the lab results were good.

I feel that Rama would be ideal for older folks, or a family with older kids. She should not be left alone all day unless you have another dog.

She will bring much joy and love into your life!!

Name: RUTHIE
RUTHIE

Breed: German Shepherd Mix
Gender: Female
Age: 4 yrs. 10 mo.  Birthday: 4/2005 (est)
Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
Milo ID: 8868
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
Sadly Ruthie was returned to Milo in November 2009, and is back at our sanctuary. Adult only home this time for Ruthie!

Original bio"

Delightful family dog - good natured, playful and active - she is a bit shy about city stuff, being a bit of a country bumpkin - but she LOVES walks in Tilden and outdoorsy locations - urban sidewalks and city streets are a bit scary for her, though she has been adjusting amazingly well - everyone is thrilled with Ruthie!

Ruthie walks fairly well on leash, and has had some training and experience. She is great in the house, but most likely will need a refresher course in housetraining. She is very dog social and an affectionate, lovable dog - and likely a bit protective in time. She just needs time to adjust, being initially a bit shy with strangers. Having a second dog is a great idea for a successful home environment and longterm happiness for Ruthie!

Ruthie is basically all black, with upright - but cock-eyed ears - expressive in her own way where as Vera has the thickened muzzle of the Shar Pei, and serious, responsive eyes, but she likely has something else in her as well . Ruthie is an avid fence climber and needs a place with lots of room of release her energy. Because of her high level of activity, she would do best with children over 10 years of age.

Foster notes: Ruthie is a happy, confident sweetheart. She reminds me so of my own wonderful shepherd-lab who was that age when she became mine - puppy fun with the training and manners of an adult. Like mine, she's smart, fun and even-tempered. She is very quick on her sit and down & walks well on leash. Off leash she sticks close but could be more responsive on her recall. She is well-mannered and quiet around the house. I've hardly heard a bark out of her outside, either. She got in the water at the beach, but it didn't seem to float her boat. She is good with people (a little shy of some men), good with other dogs, and a favorite of my dogs. She loves to settle down for a nap or to chew a rawhide. Ruthie is a catch!

Name: JASPAR
JASPAR
More Photos
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
Gender: Male
Age: 6 yrs. 10 mo.  Birthday: 4/2003 (est)
Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
Milo ID: 7624
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
JASPAR has healed up from an attack by wildlife at the sanctuary, and a bad injury to one of his legs-he is fine now. He is smart, attentive, loyal, and active boy! He would do best with cattle dog savvy people, activity, and a lap if he can get one!!! Jaspar came to us from Eureka via Fort Bragg - he had been left with his buddy "Sarge" at a home in Eureka when their people moved out. Both are intelligent and affectionate dogs - Jaspar is the more typical cattle dog, demanding and persistent, responsive and reactive - smart and agile - top dog kind of guy.

Jaspar can be mouthy and jumpy, so he would do best in a home with older kids, or just adults. Due to his prey instincts, he would be best without cats, or other small animals. He does seem to do well with most other dogs, but can be dominant. Jaspar easily backs off when reminded of his place by another dog or person. He will flourish under training and persistence and be an excellent jogging partner, hiking buddy, or beach companion.

Name: LOUIE
HERMAN

Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix
Gender: Male
Age: 7 yrs. 1 mo.  Birthday: 1/2003 (est)
Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
This dog has special needs.
Milo ID: 6670
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
UPDATE: Louie will remain a sanctuary dog for now, but he could have a particular kind of home and we are looking for sponsorship for all of our sanctuary animals who, for one reason or another, can not be adopted.

Louie is an active, sweet boy. He has bitten while being groomed. He's great with other active, fun-loving dogs. He does seem to want to chase cats, but will stop when told to leave it. He walks well on a leash and knows how to sit and stay. He likes to play in the water, so would probably enjoy a trip to the beach occasionally. He's housebroken and crate trained. He needs activity and craves affection.

Louie was in a home for a couple years - then proved to be too much with the young children involved - though we can handle and rough him up and grab and play with him and he never shows any aggression what-so-ever!

We think Louie would do best in a home with another dog that he could romp with. Louie would probably be a good agility or possible Flyball candidate. He used to enjoy sleeping on the bed at night, but would be almost as happy sleeping on his own bed or in a crate.

Now that he has been returned and is living at the Milo sanctuary, he WOULD LOVE another chance at a proper home!

Notes from his previous home: "Louie is a smart, gregarious, enthusiastic, demonstrative, super-affectionate, charming, handsome hunk of an Aussie. He jumps and balances easily, and scales steep inclines with ease, making him a good candidate for agility training. He has extremely acute sense of hearing and smell. Louie is easy-going and playful with dogs, antagonistic towards cats, and loves tracking squirrels. Horses do not spook him, nor is he overly interested in them. He has an excellent recall and reliably heels, sits, stays, places, and downs. He is really smart and learns quickly. He is a delightful running partner. Louie loves putting his nose into laps, and shows affection as readily as he seeks it. Louie is an intense dog seeking a dog-savvy intense human (or two) who will provide clear and consistent structure to help Louie overcome his moderate "conflict aggression," a mixture of anxiety-induced aggression and dominance aggression. This means he will bite if you snatch away a rawhide bone or if you poke around at his teeth. He needs to be muzzled for certain kinds of exams. Because of this, Louie isn't an appropriate member of a family with children, which is why his current family has been forced to give him up to a more suitable home. Louie's ideal home would be with one or two adults who have had extensive experience training dogs and are comfortable around a dog with aggression issues, in a house with a very big fenced yard with trees, perhaps out in the country. In the past, he's enjoyed being in a household with another dog. Louie is a special needs Aussie with special talents and a huge capacity for affection.

We get MANY inquiries about about Louie, but nothing pans out. Please only inquire if you have read this entire bio, and can handle Louie's special needs! Thank you!

Name: Pebbles

Breed: Dalmatian Mix
Gender: Male
Age: 9 yrs. 11 mo.  Birthday: 3/2000 (est)
Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
Milo ID: 3109
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
At the Milo sanctuary.

Pebbles is a large Dalmation mix who is anxious to please. Pebbles is a good boy! Eager, affectionate and willing! Pebbles loves kids and people of all kinds, he is active and exuberant. He doesn't have a lot of formal training but is responsive and tries hard to please! Happy is a word that describes him - especially if he is with someone who adores him!

Pebbles gets along well with most all other dogs, but can be a bit posessive of his food around other dogs, but not too bad-he just has a hearty appetite!.

He loves people and desperately wants to belong to someone. He has spent five years (!!) up at the Milo sanctuary!

Name: ANTHONY
ANTHONY

Breed: Labrador Retriever - Golden Retriever Mix
Gender: Male
Age: 11 yrs. 2 mo.  Birthday: 1/1999 (est)
Weight: Large (60 - 90 pounds)
Milo ID: 199
Current Location: The Milo Sanctuary
"Are you looking at me? It makes me a little uncomfortable because I'm shy and I don't trust people unless I know them real well.... I've lived here since I was 6 months old and Kira's my girlfriend. We live in the valley and I love to hide in my house when I hear people coming. Then I peak out and, if it is someone I know, I run up to the gate and deliver one of my famous smiles. I love to dance and splash in the water and I love female dogs, males I don't care for.

I can jump and play rough too, so small kids beware, but I'm a big, goofy dog with a heart of gold. Come see me and take me for a walk... one of the caretakers will have to put me on lead, but, once I'm out of my pen, we'll have a great time. Thank you for being patient with me, I really appreciate your love and concern. Once I make a friend it is for ever!

Anthony loves to go for walks. He does well on the leash; he pulls a bit to start, but will stop with a little instruction. Anthony loves to give kisses and hugs. He is a large guy and a jumper so he would do best in a home with kids over 6. He loves to dance and splash in his water dish. He is probably quite a swimmer. Anthony does not do well with other male dogs, but does like some females. He can be protective of his home with new dogs. Anthony is a big love and taking time to earn his trust is definitely worth the effort.
