Featured Animals
Featured Animals are often those overlooked in the past that may have been at Milo a long time,
either at our Sanctuary, in Foster Care or at MPR.

These animals are now more mature, issues have mellowed and they have love to give.
Please take another look!

Featured Critter: LIAM now SHERMAN

Breed: Domestic Short Hair
Gender: Male   Age: 3 yrs. 2 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 28712   Current Location: MPR

LIAM now SHERMAN Sherman is a handsome black cat who is shy at Milo but will thrive in a more relaxed home. He came here with his pal Buddy so it would be great if they could be adopted together. Sherman is best living indoors. He also gets along with dogs and other cats.

Sherman is FIV positive but without symptoms so he can live a long healthy life. FIV is a virus that spreads through deep bite wounds and not casual contact. FIV positive cats are able to live with non-infected cats with no problem.

You can read more about adopting an FIV cat at catnetwork.org/adopt-an-fiv-cat/ Come visit him today!

Featured Critter: COWBOY LOU

Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog - American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
Gender: Male   Age: 5 yrs. 4 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 28356   Current Location: MPR

COWBOY LOU Cowboy Lou was rescued from a Chico shelter to make room for all the incoming fire victims. He's a big goofball and his high energy makes him the life of the party. However, Cowboy Lou does have a high prey drive and is not cat- or dog-friendly, so these factors will be considered when considering his adopters.

Cowboy Lou would do best in an active household with kids over the age of 14. He needs people that can devote time and energy to training and exercise. He is a jumper, so a large enclosed yard is a must. If you think you're the right family for this party animal, come meet Cowboy Lou today!

Featured Critter: SONIC

Breed: Labrador Retriever Mix
Gender: Male   Age: 4 yrs. 7 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 28354   Current Location: MPR

SONIC Sonic is a dog's dog. Hiking, playing, wagging... he does it all. In fact, his tail had to be docked after he broke it from wagging it too much! But this minor setback has not affected Sonic's friendly personality or energetic nature.

Sonic has been good with dogs and loves a good romp at the park. He would do best in an household without small pets (no cats for him!). It is recommended that his future family has dog experience and can devote time and energy into working on his manners. Sonic will need routine and daily walks / enrichment. With some training, socialization, and lots of love, Sonic he will make a great running buddy and family pet. Come meet this happy boy today!

Featured Critter: BANKS

Breed: Shepherd Mix
Gender: Male   Age: 1 yr. 5 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 27915   Current Location: MPR

BANKS Banks is ready to go home! This bubbly blond shepherd is super intelligent, friendly, and energetic. A natural athlete, his youthful energy and eager-to-please personality would make him a great fit in an active household. With consistency, patience, and love, he will make a great family pet and/or exercise buddy.

Banks would do best in a home with adults and kids over the age of 14. It is recommended that his future family has some experience with shepherds and their personality traits (namely: their intelligence and energy levels). A large, fenced yard is also required for his exercise needs. He needs stimulation, consistency, leadership, and lots of love!

Featured Critter: DAVE

Breed: Australian Cattle Dog - Queensland Heeler Mix
Gender: Male   Age: 4 yrs. 3 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 27648   Current Location: Foster

Deaf DAVE This is beautiful, 4 year old Dave. Dave is deaf. Don’t let this dissuade you as Dave has many fine qualities. He is good with kids, cats and small dogs.

He does not pull on leash and is potty trained and crate trained. He loves to fetch balls, Frisbee's, run with you and follow you on your mountain bike. He knows exactly what to do and what not to do thru hand signals and an electronic e-collar when off leash. He is obedient and has excellent recall. Dave has scored 90 percent on his canine good citizen test (darn - missed one question).

Thinking of adopting a Cattle Dog? Cattle dogs are active, devoted, strong willed and protective. Dave needs adopters who are committed, understand the needs of a working breed, can provide the authority, engagement, activity/work and structure that this breed needs.

Dave currently lives in foster care with Pumpkin and Cheeto, two pit bulls near Pinole. He loves them, just check them out in the pics:) He would thrive in an active, yet structured household. He would be happy in a committed household perhaps with an already existing small, confident dog. He has lived with assertive children (7 years of age +) and really loved them.

Dave’s adoption includes free training sessions with renown, balanced trainer Kathy Kear of Cause and Effect Dog Training or with her expert associate Elizabeth Peterson. If you have read and processed Dave’s info, then perhaps you are considering meeting Dave… he would likewise be happy to meet you.

Featured Critter: BENNY

Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback - Otterhound Mix
Gender: Male   Age: 2 yrs. 5 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 27305   Current Location: Sanctuary

BENNY Benny is great with all ages of people and dogs. He passed his cat test here in Milo but dogs should always be monitored initially in the home with cats.

Benny can sit on command. He's fine eating around other dogs, does not bark, loves to run, likes napping and hanging out and loves playing in the water.

Benny would be best living with another playful, happy dog! He will thrive in an active home with someone who works from home or who has the time to and resources to provide doggie daycare and other activities when not at home. He lived at the Milo Sanctuary happily playing with other dogs for a few months.

Lovely boy, an easy going charmer. Dog friendly, co-housed with and plays well with other dogs, big and small....good on leash, on the wide-eyed and meek side, but a happy, willing fellow eager to learn and to be loved! Athletic build, a great hiking and walking companion - likely up for a run as well!

Benny is a bit shy, but gently solicitous and interested in the world around him, and people, and dogs.... he has a pretty red sable coloring, big feet, and strong athletic build. More soon on Lucky Benny!

$450 adoption fee.

Featured Critter: SADIE

Breed: Border Collie Mix
Gender: Female   Age: 8 yrs. 11 mo. (est)
Milo ID: 23970   Current Location: Sanctuary

SADIE *Foster Notes* 11/6/17 "Sadie is a loving girl. She can be protective, anxious at times when around new people and other dogs. Good spirited, will bark at people knocking on door, walking down stairs, and strangers. She does not bark aggressively and is super friendly up close."

Sadie is a sensitive lady.... protective and cautious. She is happiest when out playing fetch with a Frisbee or a ball - truly in her element. She is protective of her home and people.

More soon on this often charming but sometimes worried girl.

Featured Critter: RUTHIE

Breed: German Shepherd Dog Mix
Gender: Female   Age: 14 yrs. (est)
Milo ID: 8868   Current Location: Sanctuary

RUTHIE Ruthie deserves a lovely retirement home, give a senior a chance!! Special Senior Sanctuary Dogs are available for a 100% negotiable/flexible adoption fee... a loving home is what they need and what we want for them!

At this point in her life Ruthie is a fairly mellow senior, a loving and happy girl, who gets along well with other dogs, although would prefer a male canine friend to live with if she had her pick. She is a lovely old dame and friendly if not a tad distracted, with most people right, but can bark at strangers upon first meeting through a fence. She is a loving, tail-wagging gal for whom we are looking for a loving, adult home (no young kids) with another canine companion if possible. With a good amount of people time she would do fine as an only dog.

Ruthie is the kind of dog that will bond and be a bit protective, we feel that now she is an older dog, she has mellowed and would not bond as severely and feel she needs to protect, which she has done in her colorful past! She has been co-housed at our sanctuary with various dogs and done well and for an old girl is still quite active and engaged - though her hearing is not so great now. She tolerates brushing happily, loves attention and going on easy walks, a great dog for a senior! She is a lovely gal who deserves to spend the rest of her life in the comfort of a loving home! And for a qualified senior Ruthie's adoption fee can be waived.
